Zecharias and Elizabeth Bible Story Coloring Pages
In the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias and his wife Elisabeth were both righteous before God. They had no children, and they were all well advanced in age.
Zacharias executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course. According to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
The whole multitude of people was praying outside at the hour of incense. Then an angel appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
When Zecharias saw him, he was troubled and fear fell upon him. The angel told him not to fear for his prayer was heard and his wife Elisabeth would bear him a son, and he should call his name John.
Many will rejoice at his birth and he would be great in the sight of the Lord, and should drink neither wine nor strong drink, he would also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even in his mother’s womb. He would turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord. He would have the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
Zacharias replied the angel that he was an old man and his wife was well advanced in years. The angel told him that his name was Gabriel and was sent to bring him these glad tidings, but because Zacharias did not believe his words, he would be mute and not able to speak until the days these things took place.
Zacharias had not been able to speak a word since he entered the Holy Place of the temple to offer incense. When he had completed his time of service in the temple, and returned to his home in the hills of Judah, his wife Elisabeth met him at the door.
After those days, his wife Elisabeth conceived and she hid herself for 5 months saying that the Lord had dealt with her and took care of her to take away her reproach among the people.
